ViewRanger, the outdoors GPS adventure app, offers romance in Denmark

ViewRanger now offers topographic maps, walking and cycling trails across Scandinavia

Copenhagen might be the cycle city of the world but all of Denmark, including its islands and extensive sandy beaches, can now be explored more easily by bike, on foot or on water with the launch of detailed topographical mapping and interactive trail guides within ViewRanger, the outdoors GPS adventure app. Mapping from the Danish Geodata Agency (Geodatastyrelsen) and more than 200 free-to-download, guided walking and cycling trails have now been added to the app for Apple and Android devices.

Amongst the trail guides are those published by Scandinavian Trails, including the 15km ‘Romantik på cykel’ or ‘Romance on a bike’. The route takes in the beautiful scenery of Roskilde and passes close to the city’s Viking Ship Museum. Between May and September, visitors the museum can jump on board a boat and test their sailing abilities on the Roskilde Fjord.

Also available are the Nationale Cykelruter (National Cycling Routes) and recreational trails from collaboration between more than 50 municipalities and regions in Denmark, Sweden and Norway.

The ViewRanger app is free to download and Danish topographic mapping at both 1:50,000 and 1:25,000 scales can be easily added via low-cost in-app purchase. Detailed topographic mapping for Sweden, Norway, Finland, Germany, and many other countries can also be added.

Maps from the Danish Geodata Agency (Geodatastyrelsen) downloaded to the ViewRanger app can also be viewed through the app’s companion website “MyViewranger.com”. The website allows route plotting, recorded GPS track analysis and map printing from a larger desktop screen.

Craig Wareham is co-founder and CEO of ViewRanger. He says, “We have a strong community of outdoor enthusiasts in Scandinavia already so we are delighted to add a strong portfolio of Danish mapping and trail content.”

“ViewRanger is a map, navigation and guidebook app, but it also provides a platform for publishing and sharing media-rich, interactive trail guides – so we’d be delighted to hear from other content owners who would like to make their outdoor trail information available.”

Across Europe and North America, ViewRanger offers thousands of trail guides from guidebook publishers, tourism organisations, walking festivals, accommodation providers, and more. Trail guides include navigable waypoints for the route plus description of the trail and often photos, weblinks, accommodation tips, and other useful information.

Alongside its worldwide community of outdoor consumers, ViewRanger has become the map and navigation app of choice for many search and rescue teams, especially in Great Britain, Ireland, and increasingly the USA.

ViewRanger is available to download for free for Apple iPhone and iPad via the appstore, for Android smartphones and tablets via Google Play, and for Nokia Symbian phones via Nokia Store.
